The extinct volcano of Arthur's Seat, dominates the city of Edinburgh and can be seen for many miles in either direction. It's dinstinctive shape has been compared to a resting lion from certain angles.

The crescent shaped rocky ridge known as 'The Salisbury Crags' was a major inspiration for James Hutton, father of modern geology.
