The Scottish Parliament is a controversial but nonetheless striking building. Its distinctive shape and materials have a habit of splitting public opinion in two, as do most ambitious buildings.
It sits opposite Holyrood Palace, the Queen's residence in Edinburgh. And at the foot of the Royal Mile, which climbs up to the Castle at its opposite end.
